About Gavin Davenport
Gavin Davenport has in a few short years become “a major rising star of the folk scene” (R2 Magazine) with bold, distinctive vocals and multi-instrumental skills wrapped around a unique, percussive guitar style and a knack for stark, contemporary songwriting which unites the best of the oral tradition with a modern relevance and an incisive eye for detail. Now based in London, Gavin’s material draws on his Northern roots and his deep knowledge of traditional material.
His songwriting and performance have drawn plaudits and admiration from some of the biggest names of the folk scene, and his songs are sung by other well respected performers. His recorded material has led to comparisons with artists as diverse as Chris Wood, Jim Moray, Martyn Bennett and Tony Rose (amongst others). He is a former winner of the John Birmingham cup for songwriting and as a member of the Albion Band was nominated for Songlines and Fatea awards in 2013 as well as winning a Spiral Earth award.

His latest album ‘The Bone Orchard’ was a former Folk Radio UK album of the month, featured in fRoots magazine’s playlist and has received superb reviews throughout the UK music press, described already as “one of the best releases of 2013″ (Bright Young Folk) it is a compelling collection of traditional and newly composed material that shows real respect and understanding for the deep roots of the English Folk Tradition.
